The Proposal

so before i post my "wedding dress shopping adventures", i wanted to write about how mike proposed to me. i know many of you have heard it, but too bad! here's our story... as i remember it.
mike proposed to me on april 5, 2008. we were supposed to be celebrating an early anniversary, but boy was it much more! mike said that since i planned valentine's day, he would plan our anniversary. what a deal! i didn't have to plan or worry about anything. all i had to do was wear a dress and be ready by 6:45. easy enough!

at 6:45 we were driving to where ever we were going. as we were driving i started thinking, "omg! i didn't get him a gift! i hope he didn't get me one!" i wanted to ask him but i didn't want to just blurt it out....so here's what i said, "babe, did you get me a gift?!". pretty tactful, huh? he said, "no. why?". i said, "whew! good! b/c i didn't get you one either! hahaha!" he just smiled and kept driving.

i started looking around and noticed that we were going the direction that hotel belmont is located. here is how that conversation went:

a: babe, are we going to bar belmont?
m: no
a: well we're going that way
m: well we're not going there
a: it would be so romantic if you rented us a hotel room and we stayed the night!
m: nobody lives in a fatasy world like that ana! that only happens in the movies! now quit guessing!
a: ok!ok!ok!.......but it would be romantic...

so then guess what happened? we pull up to bar belont! i shouted, "i knew we were coming here!" mike just smiled and said that we were just having drinks before we went to dinner. that was fine by me. if you've ever been there, hotel belmont has an awesome view of downtown dallas. and at sunset, it's very romantic. we got our drinks and enjoyed our view. it was a perfect start to what would be an amazing date. as we were sitting there, we started catching up on what went on during the week. i started tell mike about what happened at work and about everything we had coming up. as i was talking, i noticed that he wasn't paying attention to me at all! here's what happened next:

a: why do you ask how my week was if you aren't going to pay attention to me?!
m: i was paying attention!
a: no you weren't!
m: yes i was!
a: then what did i say?!
m: .....silence....awkward laugh.....
a: see! i told you you weren't paying attention!
m: i have to go to the bathroom.
a: fine! when you come back, i hope you're ready to listen!

yes ladies and gentlemen, that's how it went down. i was a total brat! little did i know that the whole time i was telling mike what was going on during my week, the coordinator was standing behind me, signaling mike that things were "ready"!! what a sneak! he came back from the "bathroom" and i was still peeved! he tried to smooth things over....here's how it went:

m: sorry i wasn't listening to you.
a: uh huh
m: let me make it up to you. you want to go to the v.i.p room?
a: the v.i.p room?! how'd you get us up there?! you don't have any connections!
m: stop complaining and follow me!

we get up and start walking up the stairs......

a: why can't this place have an elevator! i'm wearing 2 in heels! i could fall and break my neck!
m: can you please stop complaining! close your eyes.
a: why?
m: just do it!
a: fine!

yes, the brattiness continues. so i closed my eyes and he lead me into the "v.i.p room". when i open my eyes, i was in complete and utter shock. the room was covered in bouquets of flowers! mike's uncle owns a nursery in hawaii and he had all the flowers flown in. his parents helped set up the room! i was speechless! (if you can imagine that!) after i lifted my jaw off the floor, he told me to go outside b/c there was more. i opened the patio door and there was a table set for 2, with a bottle of chilled wine. i couldn't believe it! here's how the next conversation went:

a: omg! i can't believe you did all this! this is the best anniversary ever! my friends are going to be so jealous!
m: you're welcome babe.
a: so are we eating here too?
m: yes. i already orded dinner.
a: you did?! you ordered for me too?
m: yes
a: well i hop you ordered something i like!! i haven't eaten all day long and i 'm starving! i
better like it
m: will you relax. you'll like it.

yeah, i know....i can't believe he still asked me to marry him! i was such a brat! we had calamari for an appetizer and grilld fish (can't remember if it was tuna or talapia) with rice and grilled veggies. it was soooo good!! he did a great job! i even apologized for being so bratty and he forgave me :-) after dinner we people watched and talked about how much fun we were having.

it was dark by the time dessert arrived. if you know me, you know i love dessert! we had chocolate cake, covered with strawberries and chocolate sauce. it was soooo good! here's what happened next:

a: this cake is soo good!
m: yeah. don't you just love this view? (dallas skyline)
a: yeah. it's pretty?
m: but don't you think this view is so pretty?
a: yeah. (chowing down on cake)
m: wouldn't you like to share this view with me?
a: yeah.
m: isn't this view nice:
a: yeah. you already said that!
m: wouldn't you like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah marry me? (down on one knee)
a: boooohoooohooohooooohooo YES!

if you ask mike, he'll tell you that i had the "ugly cry", but i choose not to believe that! looking back, i can't believe what i brat i was! i think it was the best proposal ever! i'm glad he still decided to marry me. i'm the luckiest girl! i love you mike!

now let me tell you what happened after the proposal.....after calling everyone with our good news, we hit the sack. about two hrs after we had gone to sleep, my belly started hurting. not good! i went to the bathroom, turned on the lights and went to turn on the fan, but guess what?! no fan!! yikes! i can only imagine what mike was thinking.... i know what he was hearing ....... sspplaat, twarp, buurpp, sspllish!! it was soo embarrassing! i walked out and mike asked if i was ok, but before he could answer he was yelling, "SHUT THE DOOR! OMG! IT STINKS!" i was mortified! oh well, he already put the ring on my finger so now he was stuck with me :-)

as for what mike packed for me.....aye! he said he didn't know what i was going to wear, so he packed what he new i wouldn't wear. and that was my old blue scrub bottom, one of his old, old t-shirts that had a florescent green picture on it, my faux crocs i use for gardening, and a thong! i was a sight! all in all we had a great time. it was thoughful of him to pack a bag for me and make my "fantasy" come true :-)

here are a couple of pics from our engagement night and of my "bling". mike did a GREAT job picking out my ring!

That is super funny, and of course, super sweet and romantic! I guess I never heard the complete story. Tell Mike he did a great job all around. Us girls always tend to put our foot in our mouths during special moments!
